Playing Catch-Up

Geez Louise, so much time has passed and so many wonderful things have happened!  We have honestly been a little band of nomadic gypsies trying to spend as much time as possible with family and friends.  I will try to back track and catch everyone up to speed.  Sorry it has been so long since I have posted, but it has been crazy busy!!!

Well, let me start with Halloween...Effie was a kitty cat and had so much fun dressing up and trick-or-treating.  Although she hasn't had the luxury of eating candy, (I'm a sugar natzi and won't even give her apple juice,) she still had lots of fun!  She spent Halloween with my family in Alabama, while I met Bobby in Cali to get everything ready for the big move back to the west coast.  It was sooooooo hard for me to miss her very first Halloween, but Bobby and I had so much to do and we wanted to make sure that we had everything ready to bring our daughter home.

In Vegas for the USMC Battalion Ball
So after taking care of business and finding a place to live in Cali, we made a pit stop in Vegas for the annual Marine Corps Battalion Ball.  Every year in recognition of the birthday of the USMC, a ball is held to honor the old and the new marines.  It is truly a remarkable event and I was very proud to be on the arm of my marine.  I look forward to many more!

After the Ball, Bobby and I headed down to Alabama to spend Thanksgiving with my family.  This was actually the first time that he met Effie!  It was quite an emotional and heart warming event for everyone.  My family and friends went through so much trouble to welcome Bobby with loving and open arms.   Upon arriving at the airport in Birmingham, AL, we were met with a camera crew, photographer, welcome home signs, balloons, family, friends, and our beautiful baby girl.  The local news was there to capture the exact moment when our very own war hero met his daughter for the very first time.  What a wonderful memory to share with everyone!  Who knew we were famous, lol?!?!

Dinner on the Bama Belle
My family definitely rolled out the red carpet for Bobby and wanted to make his homecoming really special.  My Mom, Nonna, and a very special family friend named Marsha, went above and beyond the call of duty.  No pun intended, haha.  Everyone enjoyed a dinner cruise on the Bama Belle, and spent the beautiful evening cruising down the Black Warrior River.  Rollin' on the river!

There was also a very special event planned on Veteran's Day at Englewood Baptist Church honoring Bobby and all of the service members and veterans of our church.  It was so touching to recognize the people that have defended our rights as Americans.  Everyone had such an amazing time, and it was so neat to learn about the accomplishments of these very humble heroes.

After having a wonderful time in Alabama, we headed to the west coast to begin our lives together as a new family.  Bobby's post-deployment leave came to an end and he reported back to work.  It was only a short stay at home until it was time to head to Idaho Falls, ID, to spend Christmas and New Year's with Bobby's parents.  It was so beautiful there and we enjoyed a lovely white Christmas.  I wish that I could say that New Year's was as enjoyable as Christmas, but unfortunately it was not.  I had to have emergency gallbladder surgery on New Year's Eve and spent New Year's Day in the hospital in Idaho.  I am recovering well and feeling much better.  It seems like the holiday season flew by.  It was a wonderful time and we continue to be blessed beyond measure and so thankful!

Bobby's parents
As for now we are back in Twentynine Palms and doing well.  Bobby picked up another rank about two months ago and is slated to get promoted again very soon.  He is doing so well in his career and I have often been told that he is one of the best marines to ever come through the program.  He is currently working toward completing a leadership training course and is expected to graduate in the top of his class in March.  Effie Rose is 10 months old now, has six teeth, and is trying to walk.  She is the joy of our lives and we are having so much fun watching her learn and grow.  My Nonna has been here helping out with the baby while I've been recovering.  Nonna, Effie, and I will be flying out to Alabama for a visit on Monday.  Miss Effie Rose is quite the little jet setter!

I'm so sorry that this post is so lengthy, and that it has taken me this long to post.  I promise to do a better job!!!  XOXOXO

FINALLY!!!!

October is finally here and that means one very important thing......Bobby is coming home!!  He will be back in California in a couple of days and we are so relieved that he is on American soil safe and sound.  He will finally get to meet our sweet, baby girl!  Can't wait to see my husband! Yaaaaaaaay!!!!!  Approximately how many exclamation marks did I use in this post? Haha!  I'm so excited and I obviously can't hide it!

Saturdays in Alabama are all about football, especially around my family.  We are huge Alabama fans.  My Poppa actually built the steel tower that Bear Bryant stood on to oversee the practices.  We usually all gather together at my Nonna's house to watch the game.  We are extremely superstitious and we make sure that we are all suited and booted in our Alabama gear and ready for game time.  We always sit in the very same seats in the living room too.  Effie is always dressed in her Bama attire every Saturday and this is a must in order for us to win.  She is learning at an early how important football is in the south.

Milestones

This cutie pie picture is from Effie's 6 month photo shoot.  She's a natural!  I guess it's in her blood, lol.  She is sitting up all by herself and is also crawling.  She gets so annoyed because she wants to walk and although she can stand up by holding on to something, she hasn't quite gotten the whole balance thing down yet.  She is quite a little mover and shaker though.  She loves to jump constantly and she also loves to chase the dogs while she is in her walker.  She moves so fast in that thing!  It's so cute to watch.  Effie has two teeth on the bottom and is cutting two more on top.  She literally smiles nonstop and is such a sweet baby.  She weighs 16 pounds and 9 ounces and is 27 inches long.  I can't believe the tiny baby that I brought home from the hospital is almost 7 months old now.  The time really does fly.    It is so neat to watch her learn new things everyday.  She is also clapping her hands and playing "patty cake."   I know it's technically probably pat-a-cake, but I'm from the south and it's called patty cake here, lol.  She is a little angel and I'm so glad that we get the opportunity to be her parents.  I am absolutely in love with this precious baby girl and I'm looking forward to Bobby getting to see her soon.  We are truly blessed beyond measure and I am so thankful.

Da-Da

So the official first words have been spoken by Effie Rose.  Da-Da!  Bobby's heart is definitely going to melt when he not only sees his baby girl for the first time, but she calls his name too.  It won't be long until the long awaited reunion finally happens.  We are making preparations for his return at the moment, and expect him to be home very soon.  Excited doesn't even begin to cover it!

Letter From Daddy

We received a letter from Bobby today in the mail and it was such a nice surprise!  He said that he wrote it literally minutes before he was leaving to head back out into the field.  He also sent these dog tags for Effie and me.  I'm going to wear mine, and I'm going to clip Effie's to her diaper bag.  We can't wait for him to get home.  Not much longer, and time seems to be passing by pretty quickly.  Effie will just sit and stare at his picture and she will take it and love on it and kiss it.  It's so sweet!  I can't wait for him to finally meet her and hold his baby girl.  It is going to be quite a powerful reunion and we are totally looking forward to it.
The sweetest thing ever!

How It All Began

I figured that it might be interesting to share how Bobby and I met.  We actually went to college together at the University of Alabama in 2002.  Bobby was the starting catcher for the Crimson Tide and we had mutual friends.  I was smitten kitten with him from the moment I saw him.  We were both extremely busy, him with baseball and me with Miss Alabama, so seriously dating was pretty much out of the question.  We continued to keep in touch for the next several years.  After I graduated from Alabama I moved to Nashville and later moved to Las Vegas.  During my adventures, Bobby spent time in Africa and ended up joining the USMC.  He was stationed in Twentynine Palms, CA, which is only a two and a half hour drive from Vegas.  Bobby and I began a long distance relationship in March of 2009.  Things really started to get super serious following a trip to visit Bobby's parents in Idaho Falls.  It was a huge shock that the notorious bachelor brought a girl home to meet the family.  We had such an amazing trip and that's where we fell in love.  On May 3, 2009, Bobby and I were in Vegas for the Marine Corps Birthday Ball.  While together in Vegas we decided to get married, and on May 4, 2009, I became Mrs. Robert S. Burns.  It's so crazy that two college students with puppy love crushes on each other ended up married 7 years later.  Life is a trip.
